The Most Popular Used Jeep Models
Jeep built its reputation as the pre-eminent 4×4 vehicle over 80 years ago. The U.S. military commissioned Willys-Overland to support military operations, and the Willys Jeep’s surprising agility over the harshest terrain made it an instant success. Today, that heritage lives on in the modern lineup of Jeep vehicles. The only challenge now is which model to choose. To help, we had our Jeep experts break down the finer features of our favorite models over the years.
Jeep Wrangler

Of course, the Wrangler tops our list of favorite Jeeps because it’s the most popular with our customers. This car boasts direct lineage to the original Willys. You can opt for a two- or four-door model with the signature Jeep design, including the vertical grille, round headlights, and removable doors and top.
Wrangler’s legendary 4×4 capability thrills off-road enthusiasts. Newer models all boast Jeep’s coveted Trail Rated badge, which each car earns by overcoming the most challenging off-road obstacles in water fording, articulation, traction, ground clearance, and maneuverability. Jeep offers the Wrangler in 11 trim levels and numerous special editions, so you’re sure to find a model with all the features you want.
Jeep Gladiator
You won’t find many used Gladiator models because Jeep only introduced the new family member in 2019. However, if you find one, snap it up. Jeep combined the best features of its Wrangler with those of a pickup truck. As a result, you get incredible performance and the utility of a truck bed.
Jeep responded to customer requests for pickup convenience and 4×4 Jeep power with the Gladiator. In addition, the exterior style combines the signature Jeep features with the Wrangler grille, so everyone immediately recognizes the brand.
You have multiple powertrains and 4×4 drivetrain options to configure your engine specifics and capability. A gas-power 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine produces 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. As a result, the Gladiator can tow up to 7,650 pounds and haul as much as 1,700 pounds. Jeep also offers a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6 engine, which merges power and efficiency perfectly. This powertrain puts out 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, and this diesel variant can tow up to 6,500 pounds.
Jeep Grand Cherokee
As far as midsize SUVs go, the Grand Cherokee delivers rugged style, impressive performance, and premium luxury. The Grand Cherokee doesn’t disappoint if you want an SUV with functional, refined space, the latest technology, and the pinnacle of 4×4 capability. Jeep blends modern SUV styling cues with signature Jeep touches to the exterior, never wavering from the distinctive Jeep grille and headlights.
Inside, Jeep has outfitted the Grand Cherokee with leather upholstery and heated and ventilated seats. Natural wood and metal appliques add sophisticated style, and the suite of driver-assist systems offers peace of mind on the busy Ohio highways.
Engine options include the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6, or some models have the 5.7-liter HEMI V-8, which puts out 357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 7,200 pounds. Jeep recently began offering the Grand Cherokee with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The hybrid technology produces 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque and offers a 6,000-pound towing capacity. Some models come with rear-wheel drive, but we recommend opting for a 4×4 model to tackle the wintry Ohio weather.
Jeep Cherokee
We’d be remiss if we didn’t talk about the Cherokee. The Cherokee makes sense if you want the same premium features and capability as the Grand Cherokee but in a smaller package. You get ample space for five passengers, plus you can enjoy Jeep’s sharp exterior style and capability. Another thing to consider is the multiple engine options that provide various efficiency and power results. Finally, the versatile space of the Cherokee offers plenty of room for hauling cargo or passengers.
Jeep Renegade
The Renegade offers some elements of the same Wrangler exterior style in a smaller package. This compact SUV offers sporty good looks and a Jeep drivetrain to take on your weekend excursions. Its smaller size makes it a nimble city driver, and the fuel economy you get from one of two four-cylinder engines will leave you smiling as you no longer have to stop at the gas station as often.
Though the Renegade comes in a small package, it boasts up to 51 cubic feet of cargo capacity with the rear seat folded flat. But keep the seat up, and you and your friends can hit the road in comfort.
Jeep Compass
The subcompact Compass makes for a great commuter, especially when the weather turns wet and wintry. A four-cylinder engine provides sufficient power with exceptional economy, and buying a four-wheel-drive Jeep always makes sense.
You can find a gently used Compass with a premium leather interior and Jeep’s Uconnect infotainment system with touch-screen technology. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth come preloaded on these systems, enabling you to stay connected and operate your cellphone using simple, intuitive voice commands. In addition, Jeep offers a Trail Rated Compass Trailhawk model, which provides the rugged capability you expect from Jeep with an upscale interior.
