2023 Ram 2500 vs. Chevy Silverado 2500
In the pantheon of high-performance pickup trucks, the names Ram and Chevrolet Silverado are consistently among the top performers and best sellers. Both are available in a 2500 series representing a middle ground between everyday accessibility and work readiness. Aside from that functional similarity, there are considerable differences between the Ram 2500 and the Chevrolet Silverado. Let’s examine what the 2023 release of each model has to offer and see how they stack up against each other.
Trims, Configurations, Drivetrains, and Exterior Dimensions
The customizability of a pickup truck’s cab configuration, drivetrain option, and size impact its utility and performance. The Ram 2500 is available in seven trims, and each one is available in a particular range of cab configurations and drivetrain options. This chart breaks it all down:
Ram 2500

The exact exterior dimensions also vary based on the cab configuration and drivetrain option:

The Chevrolet Silverado 2500 is available in just five trims. The High Country is only available in 4WD, while the other four trims offer the option between 2WD and 4WD. The prospective cab configurations vary for each trim as follows:

Powertrain and Performance
With the 2023 Ram 2500, two powertrain options are available. The standard is a 6.4-liter HEMI V-8 that puts out 410 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque. The other option is a 6.7-liter Cummins turbo-diesel I-6, which generates 370 hp and 850 lb-ft of torque — available for all trims except the Power Wagon. As for performance, the Ram 2500 has serious pulling power, with a maximum towing capacity that ranges from 14,460 pounds to 20,000 pounds depending on the engine and trim you select. Max payloads range as high as 4,000 pounds.
The 2023 Silverado 2500 also offers two powertrain options. A 6.6-liter V-8 (401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque) is standard, while a 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V-8 (445 hp and 910 lb-ft of torque) is optional. In terms of towing, the Chevrolet doesn’t perform as well as the Ram, as its maximum conventional towing capacity ranges from 14,500 pounds to 18,510 pounds. The Silverado’s max payload is 3,751 pounds.
Interior Dimensions and Quality
The 2023 Ram 2500 seats two to six people depending on the cab configuration. Front-row legroom is uniformly spacious for all options at 40.9 inches. The crew and mega cabs offer rear-row seating, where the legroom is likewise generous — 40.2 and 43.1 inches, respectively. The Ram’s interior features are top-end as well, with great levels of attention given to the detailing and higher trim levels comprising premium materials.
The Silverado 2500 has the edge over the Ram with regard to interior space. The legroom measures 44.5 inches in the front row across all cab configurations. The legroom in the double cab’s rear row is tight at 35.2 inches, but the crew cab has rear-row legroom measuring 43.4 inches. As for the quality of the interior, it varies depending on your choice of trim. The base Work Truck model is fairly barebones, but the High Country trim offers advanced features such as a power-up/power-down tailgate, a bed-view camera, and premium leather seating.
